Dr. Ramirez is a native of Tucson, AZ. He attended the University of Arizona and received a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, and also in Medical Technology, in 1982. He graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine, receiving his doctor of medicine in 1986. He stayed in Tucson to complete his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Tucson Hospital’s medical education program from 1986-1989 and received his board certification. He then went on to complete his cardiology fellowship in Phoenix, AZ at Maricopa County Medical Education Program from 1989-1991. He then returned to Tucson to practice as a member of one of the founding groups that went on to become the largest cardiology group in Southern Arizona, where he served as past president. He has also served as past Section Chief of Cardiology at Tucson Medical Center, the largest community based hospital in Southern Arizona.
In his latest endeavor, Dr. Santiago Ramirez has developed and is dedicated to maintain an independent practice of cardiology that offers comprehensive Cardiovascular services from prevention to the newest techniques in Cardiology and Vascular Medicine.
In addition to his cardiology practice, Dr. Ramirez remains very active civically in his community and also enjoys a variety of hobbies.
Dr. Ramirez enjoys playing drums and has played for leisure, as well as professionally. He has been honored for his contribution to Latin Music in Tucson.
He is a Koi fish and pond hobbyist, whose pond was the featured pond for the 2013 Tucson Water Gardeners Pond Tour. He recently co-founded “Tucson Koi and Water Gardens”, a retail store specializing in domestic and Japanese Koi fish, water plants and ponds, water features and outdoor living spaces and supplies.
His love of the Arizona desert has inspired him to share this with others as the co-owner of the Tucson Cactus company, a nursery and grower of native and exotic cacti and succulents.
